"Harmattan"

The Harmattan is a great wind that blows across North Africa from East to West.  It is so powerful that it produces dust storms 200 miles off the West coast of Africa.

I painted Harmattan several years before going to Sudan, but in Darfur I kept seeing this landscape in the sun-blasted beauty of that environment.  I also experienced the dust storms that advance like a moving cliff face and erase the sky.

The painting is about a woman.
